Liek Hou on fire at the World Para-Badminton Championships


Cheah Liek Hou secured a double win at the World Para Badminton Championships in Pattaya on Feb 25.

PETALING JAYA: It was a double joy for Cheah Liek Hou after he successfully defended his SU5 men’s singles title and also added the doubles crown with Fareez Anuar at the World Para- Badminton Championships in Pattaya on Sunday (Feb 25).

It was Liek Hou’s eighth singles title and 14th overall since achieving his maiden success in Hsinchu, Taiwan in 2005.

Liek Hou defeated archrival Dheva Anrimusthi of Indonesia 21-15, 16-21, 21-15 in the final that lasted for 62 minutes.

It was also sweet revenge for Like Hou, who lost to Dheva in the final of the Hangzhou Asian Games last year.

In the men’s doubles, Liek Hou-Fareez won their first world crown as a pair after beating Chirag Baretha-Raj Kumar 21-17, 21-18 in 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, Noor Azlan Noorlan-Ikhwan Ramli finished runner-up in the men’s doubles wheelchair category after losing 10-21, 13-21 to Mai Jianpeng-Qu Zimo of China in 28 minutes.
